Want to learn more about surfing the Net? Attend some of our online classes, run by technology experts and our online gurus. WiredSafety's Wired-Ed classes are run on IRC, on the WiredSafety network. There's no charge to attend, and everyone is welcome.
WiredSafety's Wired-Ed program offers over 50 classes to both members of WiredSafety and to the general public
Wired-Ed classes welcome new WiredSafety members into the organization and inform non-members (and members alike) about essential Internet topics, such as protecting your computer against viruses, how to configure firewalls and helping your children surf safely.
The broad range of class topics, some leading to certifications, vary from the basics (Intro to Search Engines, Ergonomics, Internet Definitions, etc.) through to the highly technical (Nukes, Hostmasks, Viruses, Firewalls, etc.) We teach people how to use most of the popular chat programs (AOL, ICQ, mIRC, pIRCh, etc.), how to be safe using them, and even how to recognize a predator. Using the expertise of Parry Aftab, Esq. our Executive Director and author of the leading books on online safety for children, and information from her book, The Parent's Guide to Protecting Your Children in Cyberspace (McGraw-Hill), our Wired-Ed program offers classes that are designed to teach parents how to gain their children's trust and work out rules governing computer use, together.
- Parents can learn about risks their children face online and how to minimize those risks.
- Teachers and school administrators can learn about online risk management and the laws that impact children's use of the Internet at schools. Our new WiredEducator's certification is being offered to licensed educators who have completed our course for educators.
- Specialized classes and training programs are given to our high tech security and cybercrime investigation teams.
- Law enforcement agencies can attend special classes hosted by our WiredCops.
- Children and teenagers can learn in safety in specially-configured, private classrooms. Topics for younger cyberscholars include online safety, responsible surfing and how to spread the word about safe surfing offline to their schools and local community groups.
We schedule our classes around the clock so people in all countries can access them during a time that is convenient. They are available in other languages as well, for non-English speakers. Soon video and audio applications will be added to assist those with accessibility issues, as well as providing a more interactive learning experience.
